ZXMoto, a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer, is developing a V5 engine, a rare configuration in the two-wheeler world. This ambitious project is led by Zhang Xue, the company’s founder, who is known for his pursuit of high-performance technology.
The development of this five-cylinder engine marks ZXMoto’s attempt to break out of the comfort zone of Asian manufacturers. Historically, V5 engines have been used in Honda’s MotoGP racing bikes.
The rumor of this project has sparked enthusiasm among speed enthusiasts worldwide. Through this experimental project, ZXMoto aims to prove that it can develop complex engine technology.

The V5 engine being researched is expected to have three cylinders in the front and two in the back, providing a smooth balance of vibration and a unique exhaust sound. ZXMoto’s technicians are focusing on achieving explosive power delivery at high engine speeds, comparable to European supersport bikes.
The biggest challenge in developing this engine lies in the complex cooling system for the rear cylinders and overall weight management. To address this, ZXMoto is using lightweight composite materials and high-level lubrication systems to ensure engine durability.
Although the project is still in the intensive development stage, the detailed specifications of the engine’s cc capacity are expected to be revealed next year. Many observers predict that a prototype of the V5 bike will be showcased at upcoming automotive exhibitions.
