A Wuling Aira EV showcased at Indonesia’s IMX 2026 expo proves electric vehicles can merge practicality with creative expression. The project, created with Otoproject and SOVLO, turns the vehicle into a mobile art piece while keeping its essential functions. The initiative highlights how EVs can serve as both transportation and cultural statements.
The partnership blends two key approaches. Otoproject handled functional enhancements, including an exterior roofbox, crossbar, and 14-inch wheels, plus interior upgrades like a dashcam mirror, steering wheel cover, and lumbar cushion. These changes focus on improving daily usability rather than aggressive styling. Meanwhile, SOVLO invited local artists to the event, where they painted the car’s body with live illustrations under the theme “Cerita Yang Tetap Hidup”—stories inspired by everyday Indonesian experiences. The artwork features bold, contemporary designs with lively colors, weaving cultural themes into a style aimed at younger audiences.
Unlike most EV modifications that prioritize speed or visual flash, this project redefines customization by balancing practicality with artistic identity. Martin, CEO of Otoproject, emphasized that the upgrades maintain the Aira’s core functionality while adding comfort and convenience. The result challenges the idea that modified EVs must compromise usability for aesthetic appeal.

The live illustration process at the expo added another creative dimension. Artists from SOVLO and Doodle Art Indonesia worked directly on the car’s surface, translating local motifs into energetic, youth-oriented designs. Afra Viena, SOVLO’s Chief External Relations, called the project a connection between Indonesian storytelling and automotive culture, specifically designed for younger generations.
Wuling’s Marketing Director Ricky Christian explained that the collaboration demonstrates EVs are more than just technological advancements; they also serve as platforms for individual expression. The modified Aira EV, displayed at booth Wuling A2 in Hall 3, ICE BSD City during IMX 2026, illustrates how electric vehicles can adapt to personal tastes without losing their original purpose.
